Summer 2010

Memorial Day Weekend officially kicked off the regular summer season at the Park and the Campground and Regatta Boat Races drew a huge crowd. Campground sites were completely booked and folks were setting up tents along the lake and even at Hilltop. The Beach and Snack Shack opened on Saturday, June 9th and are scheduled to be open, weather permitting, from 12 Noon until 6 PM Monday – Saturday and from 1 PM until 6 PM on Sunday. Beach prices are $4 per person with children two and under admitted for free. In addition, those people camping, renting pavilions or staying at the Farmhouse or Cottage pay just $2 with a special ticket obtained at the Nature Lodge office. Boat rentals are also available at the Beach and the costs are $3 for ½ hour and $5 for one hour. Campsites in the F, R and RT sections can be reserved by calling the Park office. Pavilions and the Farmhouse and Cottage can also be reserved. Simply call the office at 814-676-6116 or toll free at 1-877-896-6453. Office hours are 9 AM – 5 PM Monday-Thursday and Saturday, 9 AM – 6PM on Friday and 10 AM – 4 PM on Sunday. The Park mailing address is: Two Mile Run County Park, 471 Beach Road, Franklin, PA 16323.

A new Park feature this year is going to be an “Activities Coordinator” scheduled to begin the week of June 20th. Giuseppe Barone, a student at Edinboro, will be working to set-up special events on the weekends for children at the campground and he will be working to set-up other activities in the Nature Lodge and Beach areas.

The first phase of the Handicap Barrier Removal Project has been completed with HA parking pads at the Nature Lodge, Beach House and Justus and Mackey pavilions. The restrooms have been renovated at the Beach House and the Fishing Pier received a new surface. The second phase of the project will most likely commence this coming fall.

The next Full Moon Night Hike is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 7:30 PM. Everyone wishing to participate should meet at the Nature Lodge and bring a snack. The Oil Region Astronomical Society (ORAS) is scheduling the Observatory to be open to the public every clear Friday night starting at dusk.

A Trail Ride for Fun is scheduled for June 26th and 27th. Please contact the Park office for more information. A tremendous amount of work is being done on all the trails by the Park Trails Committee.

The Nancy Frey-Smith Memorial Weekend is scheduled for August 14th & 15. August 14th will feature a 30K mountain bike race and August 15th will have 5K and 30K woods runs. Entry forms are available on this web site. Simply click on “Race Entry Forms” located on the upper left side of this page.

The Memorial Service will take place at the Beach House Patio starting at 2 PM. It will feature the Franklin Brass Band, a special plaque and dedication honoring the Frey Family and a special plaque honoring Nancy Frey-Smith followed by a Community Picnic sponsored by A. Crivelli.

The Great Justus Lake Swimming Challenge is scheduled for Wednesday, August 18, 2010 beginning at 6 PM. More details will be posted soon under News & Events.

Our 2,695 acre Park with its 144 acre Justus Lake and nearly 28 miles of trails make it a year-round great place to have fun and simply enjoy the outdoors.
