Early Intervention

Overview

Early Intervention provides support and services to infants and toddlers from birth to age three who have special needs due to developmental delays or disabilities.

Early Intervention services occur in the home or other natural environments at no cost to the family for the evaluation and services, if the child qualifies.  The five areas of development that are assessed include:

  • Adaptive skills
  • Cognitive skills
  • Communication skills
  • Physical skills
  • Social-emotional skills

Along with case management, Early Intervention can provide other services as deemed appropriate, such as:

  • Hearing
  • Nutrition
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Special instruction
  • Speech therapy
  • Vision

Eligibility

These services are geared towards children ages 0 to 3.

In order to qualify for Early Intervention, an intake and evaluation are completed with the child and family to determine strengths, needs, and eligibility.

If a child has a medical diagnosis that puts him or her at risk for developmental delays or if a delay of at least 25% (-1.5 standard deviation) is exhibited in one or more of five developmental areas, Early Intervention services can begin to support the child’s development.
